Well this is a bit awkward, a little while back I did a bit of research on the OMAP line of SOCs, you know? The line of chips produced by the tech giant Texas Instruments? They scrapped the line, TI that is to pursue more mainstream processor production, when they decided on this move the floodgates opened for other chip producers. Samsung was granted the ability to open up their production, and of course Qualcomm just became monsters and began to lead the way with their chip production. Currently the 800 chipset is in any high end device you can name. Even as Qualcomm are the monsters of the mobile processor world they're not taking their lead with ease. Apple, Samsung and now a company I've seen many mentions of lately. That is MediaTek.
Based out of Taiwan, MediaTek is leading the way overseas in many devices. Including tablets, blu ray players smart TVs and of course smart phones. Of course they're not known much in the US as lte is the wave and Qualcomm is the main supplier of chips supporting lte. As Qualcomm is the leader, all other companies are rushing to catch up. MediaTek has already announced that they're building chips to support lte so that they can compete worldwide. We all know if MediaTek is making moves for lte that of course Samsung will be moving toward lte able chips... Which technically Samsung builds apples chips and they have lte...Thats if you're being technical though.
All n all, 2014 tech is shaping up to be huge, just as 2013 was. The difference between 2013 a d 2014? Is that with more companies going worldwide, consumers will be faced with even tougher decisions. But this will also create tons of jobs if many companies can make the transition overseas and grab a hold of market share. As I always say and as most of the time it comes true, keep your eyes on the smaller companies, they always tend to make impacts.
Happy new year everyone, and keep your eyes peeled, CES is right around the corner.
