Its been an up and down year for the mobile phone industry. Now when I say this I'm not saying it in any negative way. When I say up I mean up in terms of innovation ad options, now when I say down, I mean in terms of certain flagship devices not necessarily being as successful as they should've been and yet they paved the way for the next generation of devices...
As you may have heard, Samsung is planning to push the Galaxy S5 to the public ahead of schedule (supposedly since the S4 has been underperforming in terms of sales). Now I'm not certain if this is because of the many other androis flagships that became available recently, or the actual success of the sister note line of devices. I would put my money on the latter, but there's a stronger chance its a combination of the 2. I have some concepts of the device added into this post to make a point as go where technology is going right now.
I happened to spend a lot of time on Google last night, for many things some of which I don't remember. At one point I said to myself "james let's look at GS5 rumors." Some of these rumors include Sammy releasing 2 versions of their baby flawgshop that being an aluminum handset and of course a plastic handset (doesn't that sound familiar?). The other rumors are basically pictured below. Now as I browsed around all of these concepts it reminded me of CES this year where Samsung not only announced flexible OLED technology, but had a working fully flexible screen, ON TOP OF a fully functioning device that happened to have an edge wrapped screen.
Let's rewind for a bit back to the beginning of the excellence that is the Sammy flagship series. In its first generation, back when carrier branding seemed to be mandatory, Samsung released a special edition of the Galaxy s that had a small ticker on the Bottom of the screen. This ticker ran solo as its own screen but it basically operated as a second notification bar. Now let's come Back to present time where at CES Samsung had a workimg device with a wrap around screen that displayed this same ticker idea on the side where the screen rests. These concepts are lining up with exactly what had been shown at CES this year, which if the rumors line up with CES and the test release of the galaxy round the S5 could easily I plot this wrap around design a d altogether do away with hard buttons...which would shrink the device under 6mm possibly? I mean we also know that samsung has been working on new battery technology also.
So lets wrap all of this up shall we. A possible unibody design. also thrown in the mix...But it could be a unibody design with a wrap around OLED screen. I don't know what they'll do for the camera which is actually a losing battle thanks to Nokia, but thats another discussion. An even slimmer profile than what we're already accustomed to, we know full HD, and to boot I'd hope for a complete overhaul of touchwiz. I mean the first photo I have here just honestly is the perfect device in terms of ergonomics, and of course we'd need gorilla glass... The downfall of course is those of us that are clumsy. But we'll see around February since production is set to begin in January. So best believe I'll be back at the end of January faithfully reporting.
